Prager Straße & Seevorstadt Dresden (Johannes-Göderitz-Preis)
Tracing the local spirit and developing the urbanity of the area in a modern way led a building programme, which incorporates housing and commercial facilities.
With a simple at the same time very concise intervention, a "backbone", west of the existing building complex Prager Straße, is formed to strengthen the wide space of the main street and to add a powerful grip. Two rows of housing are clutching courtyards. At certain places towers structure the courtyards as landmarks, give orientation and quote the scale of the area. At the Prager Straße, the draft provides light and transparent hall roofs in between the existing high rise buildings to visually summarize the open area and give a shelter for new pavilions below (eg. food markets and discounter stores).
This work was entered in the urban planning competition "Johannes-Göderitz Prize 1998 - Dresden - Prager Straße and Seevorstadt West" and was awarded 2nd prize. It was reprinted in the magazine Wettbewerbe aktuell 3/99 (S. 85ff.) ISSN-0177-9788
This project was made in cooperation with Dipl.-Ing. Arch. N. Walter
