back | you are here: Works  - Medienakademie Berlin

This freely chosen work, placed in between the "political and public heart" of Berlin, follows two basic ideas: "Shell and core" on the one hand and "Vertical mixed usage and differentiation" on the other hand.

Urban development and use-related aspects concerning housing collide on a site, which is "ruled" by tourism, political and public interests. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is situated across the street. Crossing the river Spree, the Museum Island follows. The Humboldt University and the Friedrich-Werdersche church frame the site. The selected design provides a solid building block in the overall structure of the city, regarding the existing architecture and usage.

The Media Academy reflects its surroundings and offers space for temporary housing, meeting and communication. The concept and design gives an answer to the question: "How to create a place for residential housing, which is driven by diverting forces?"
