The design of the boarding school at the border of the biggest lake in Lower Saxony has multiple motivations. It pursues the following conceptual points and architectural aspects:
Definition and emphasising of constructed space and natural space.
The school and the sports hall frame a place which has an old tree population. The housing area forms a clearly defined region. Between school buildings and living quarters, a wedge-shaped green space faces the lake.
Separation of school and housing emphasises the "way to school".
The main access route spans a line between the schoolyard and a small chapel (at the end of the boarding school area).
Overlay and demarcation: the trees of the schoolyard (existing trees) stand out as a "fixed point" in the axis of the wooden boardwalk and includes both the education sector, as well as to the living quarters.
Meeting points and communication: the boardwalk itself is a kind of barebone which lines up leisure spaces. Furthermore, there are passages placed in between the housing buildings to open up different ways to the accommodation. Encounter is a key issue of the design, however, it's not strictly prescribed.
Mixed use: the school building contains in addition to classrooms and specialist rooms, an open sculpture court, a cafeteria with kitchen and adjoining rooms.
